How do you guys have so many fans?

Some of you guys say you have like 6 fans. My question is where do you actually connect all of these fans? My Gigabyte mobo for my Athlon XP has only 2 fan slots: CPU and SYS. My room mate's mobo for his Athlon XP has 3 slots: CPU, SYS and PWR.

Where do you get these motherboards that support 6 fans? I have never seen a motherboard that supports so many.

Most people actually run the fans directly from the power supply, using the molex connectors, rather than using the motherboard headers. Most motherboard headers can only support a certain amount of amps running thru them, so if you have a high speed fan (e.g. 6000rpm) your better off running them directly from the powersupply. But then most 6000rpm fans would only be used on the cpu heatsink, so you'd only have one of them anyways.

But yeh, most people would be running the case fans directly from the power supply. Many fans include a pass-thru molex adapter, so you can hook many of them up together.

Many fans have normal 4pin power connector which connects directly to the psu.

Do you mean the same kind of connector that powers my hard drive?

Ok well since you are here, what is the best fan in terms of price and performance that I can get with that type of connection? My computer has a real problem with heat... my AthlonXP 1700+ is hotter than my room mate's AthlonXP 2300+ even though i have 1 more fan than he does and his computer still has the grill on the back.

His XP2300+ might not be palomino core (palominos run hotter) so you might never get the same heat level as he does.

I don't know about fans, I only have two (enermax switchable speed fans, 1intake and 1exhaust).

(My computer runs at 50C idle and 60C full load)

60C? omg that is hot, perhaps you are the one who needs more case fans
Mine runs at 48C all the time, doesn't matter what load. Room mate's computer runs at 42C.

Nah 60C is alright, too much higher than that and then ya'd be alittle worried.

48C i definatly wouldn't be worried about.

The athlon chips shouldn't cook emself until they hit 90C, tho above about 65-70C and ya will start to see some stability issues, but no perminant damage.

Well, it has ran 75C full load (and back then I had 1 huge intake and 2 exhaust fans).
It's a common problem with asus boards that the cpus run hot (it seems that the board changes vcore from normal 1,75V to 1,85V and thus makes it run hotter).

These are what I have (the 8x8 model)
