Issue during Win XP Pro Install.

A few days ago my Win XP Pro suddenly got flaky so today I decided to reinstall. I booted to the cd, deleted the C partition, created a new C partition and started reinstalling. During the reinstall I got error messages:
"Windows could not load the installer for CDROM..." and "Windows could not load the installer for disk drive...Contact hardware vendor for assistance.
I Ok'ed my way past it and let the install finish. Since then I can't get past the windows splash. I flashes on the screen for a second and then the monitor goes black.
I have run a Western Digital diagnostic on my hard disk, tried removing and swapping memory chips and I'm running out of ideas. I'm even having difficulty getting it to boot to the cd rom so I can attempt to install again.
My system is a Athlon XP 1600 +, 512 DDR Ram (Crucial), 80 G WD Drive.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
Thx
Gary

Looks fine to me. I have another one at work that maybe I'll try just to see if I can get it to install properly. Will I have issues with the activation if I just install it for a day or so?

No...if its same version it wont matter at all either way...you can use different cd and activate with your serial but it must be same version!

I guess I may as well try it. Does this sound like a hardware issue to you?

"Windows could not load the installer for cdrom"

I am getting this same error (folowed by the "disk drive" error) on a Dell D600 laptop running XP. However, it began after the laptop had been infected and cleaned of WelchiaB worm. I have installed Windows critical updates. When I check Device Manger, it says device is working properly, but when I try to update driver, I get the error message. Any ideas/fixes?

This turned out to be a bad memory stick. I wish I had run Memtest before wiping my drive.
Good luck.

aha.interesting,i got the same problem for modem

my laptop, now my modem driver cannot be installed.the situation is exactly as u have described.
really annoying, after searching msn, msdn, google.i found that other guys also encountered this problem,eg,disk, graphic card, cdrom, but there seems no solution except a clean reinstall or repair.

expecting some method to solve this a****** problem

I had not gotten back to that laptop (I'm a tech at a school) to trying swapping out memory until this morning. Before trying, I checked with the teacher, and she told me that she is no longer getting the error messages! The only things I had done was run Windows updates on it and run the diagnostics disk (which showed no problems). I still had the errors when I left, but she said she never got them again. I may not have rebotted before leaving, but I don't remember. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!
