I'll but Half-Life 2. For a few reasons. Main one is Multiplayer.
But right now, I couldn't buy either one. Money trouble |

I think HL2 will be for the simple reason that Doom 3 is NOT multiplayer. Single player games only have a limited re-playability (I made that word up) IMO.
Just take a look at quake 3. It doesn't have great graphics, but the fact that it has good gameplay and is multiplayer keeps people playing it YEARS later. Know any single player games from that day that are still played like that?

hmm...it's true that doom III doesn't have much multiplayer (it does have some), but at the same time Id has talked about possibly releasing an expansion pack that has full multiplayer in it. besides, do many of you play half-life multiplayer (excluding any and all mods)? not many. so i don't think that's much of an issue. looking at the single player portions of each game i really don't know which will be better. i would be willing to guess that the difference will be like the difference between serious sam and the original half-life. both are good, just in different ways. but yeah, only time will truley tell which is better

Probably won't play either...but my vote is for Doom III ... NO Half Life game has ever been worth a second of my time.

For me its half life for a number of reasons!
1.) like Jkrohn said MULTIPLAYER! I mean CS, Day of defeat ect...
2.) Storyline, I love HL's plot! It twisted and turned and sucked me in! Doom will be fun cause it looks amazing and makes me stain my undeas. Half life though will not only look amazing but have a good story line.
3.) HL's physics. The engine its running on is sounding amazing! While I haven't used it if it is HALF as good as it sounds I'm in for a treat!

well, my opinion- Buy both. Although Doom III DOES have multiplayer (2 vs 2 or deathmatch, etc..) its the single player that will stand out. I think its the same with Half-Life 2, because that Half-Life 2 video is AMAZING cant wait cant wait
