I would hold off on that a while...there really isn't a market for Dual AMD XP/MP systems as the only chip manufacturer is AMD...and they haven't done much with it.
However, AMD does have the Opteron CPU coming out. It's a 32/64 bit processor that will blow away all of Intel's dual processor solutions. nVidia is making the nForce 3 as a solution for it also, so it should turn out to be a great system.

If you want to go with a dual athlon mp system, use the gigabyte ga-7dpxdw+. It has onboard raid, separate ata133 channels, decent sound, onboard lan, an agp pro slot, etc. etc.
I use this board in my main rig now and have not had one problem with it. It uses the newest chipset, the 760MPX and supports all the new processors, including the 2800+ (a 2600+ with 512k cache so it's really a lot better than 2800).
If you want to hold off for an opteron system, by all means do so. I wouldn't though, because it will be quite a while before they become affordable enough for the home user.

RAID cards, gigabit lan, and other high-end peripherals sometimes use 64-bit PCI.

I'd heavily recommend the MSI K7D Master L, which I am using now. I have used the Tyan Tiger MP boards, both the 2460 as well as 2466.
I have to say the MSI is the best I have used. AND it lets you overclock EASILY, since all MPs come unlocked from the factory, I have my 1800+ running at 2200+.
The board also comes with all sorta fancy features you'd expect, LAN, audio etc. But the RAM is PC2100. I run ECC modules on mine.
Its just great.

No I do not believe so, Sam. But I have not had any slowdowns, especially since my RAM is running at 288 mhz now (after the overclock)
