GeForce ti4200 vs FX5200

I was looking to get a new video card, and plan to do some moderate gaming.

I was initially looking at a 128mb ti4200, however, i am seeing a lot of the FX5200 (non-ultra) with 128mb and was wondering how they differ? Since the 5200 is cheaper, does anyone know if it can be soft-modded to perform on par with or better than the ti4200? Is it comparable to the ti4200 at all?

i went with fx 5200 over the radeon 9000 pr (they were the same price so i figured id get the newer one). u can't compare the fx 5200 wit hte ti 4200. the ti 4200 is way better. but for someone who does moderate gaming, its pretty good (i can run vice city at 1024 by 768 resolution just fine and unreal 2 runs pretty good at 800 by 600). this is a low end card so if u can afford it, get the ti4200. but if money is an issue, u should get the fx 5200 IMO.

I have two cards, and I'm not sure wich could be the best one to keep, the PC came originaly with the TI 4200 64MB, but I was given the FX 5200 128MB.

I have notice that the TI it has half of the video memory that the FX

The question is, the TI seems to be quieter, but perfomes very well. It also doesn't support DX9 (not sure if it would be a pach in the future).
My collegues said that the FX 5200 is better, but in the benchmarks, it is usualy the other way arround! I know that the TI it is older, and now that Half-Life2 it is almost out, probably won't play with this machine, I'm getting very confused about what card to use. I also know that the FX it is a budget card while the TI it is a performance one.
From time to time I do a bit of multimedia design, and I belive that the TI would be better for this, but I must say that I also enjoy to play games on the PC.

Any help apreciate.

from what i have gathered, the ti is def. a better card, but it will not support the future games. if you looking to sell either of those, let me know

ok, who resurrected this?!?

enekomeg: go with the benchmarks, and go with the ti4200. It'll play HL2 just fine, check out the thread "can your grphx card handle HL2?) in the game forum to see.

Get the Ti card IMO. As you may know I really say the same things in a lot of Graphic Cards threads when a person is asking about which card he should get. I really don't like the Fx series that Nvidia came up with, and I really think the Ti series is the best thing that Nvidia came up with. Of course these are my opinions based on experience and facts. The Ti card you are interested in is older than the Fx card, but this does not mean the Fx card is better. Does the Fx card support DirectX 9? I know that the Ti card doesnt but this is not an issue IMO since most cheap and value cards that support DirectX 9 really arent that great and its not worth buying these card even if the actually support DirectX 9. I would actually buy a Radeon if I was you since I believe that ATi makes better video cards, but everybody has their opinion. Also Radeon cards are usually cheaper than Nvidia. Hope this helps

Hi guys, many thanks to all of you, but the actual question was is that if the TI is half of the memory of the other one, would still be better?

Thanks for your help
