OS for Laptop...

I've got this Compaq Armada 1573A at work. It's a humble machine with a P2 266MHz CPU, a mere 64Mb RAM and a 3Gb harddrive.

I've tried a few OS's on this machine, including Win2k (very tweaked), Slackware (Console) and RedHat(couldn't get X to work).

Is this doomed to have Win98 on it? I want to use it as a networking tool, based on free apps and such. I don't think Linux is the right choice, since we are Windows-based.

Should I run W2K anyway, altho it's slow and sluggish. I found that running a terminal server client is faster than the computer itself.

Any suggestions? Is there a way to install a minimum w2k system, without any unnecessary services and components?

/AE

well some older linux distros might work. Dos should work fine, and hey theres always ME if your feeling lonely and want an OS.

I'd have to say though a tweaked out 98SE is probably your best bet.

You'd need 128mb for w2k to run properly.
Stick with w98, no reason to put in something that will not work well.
