My power supply is acting screwy, again, and I was wondering what the ideal wattage would be for my system. Here are my specs:

AMD 1600+ (minor possible over clocking in the future)
ATI Radeon 7500
512 of Crucial DDR 2100 (hopefully another 512 by the end of the summer)
Two HD’s – (20 and 80) 7200 rpm’s
Liteon DVD
Liteon CDRW
Audigy sound card
NIC
Modem
TV card

How many watts would you all recommend? Stay with 300W or upgrade to 350W? Also, what brand PS? I am currently using the generic AMD approved PS that originally came with my case and have never bought an individual PS. Suggestions (moderate price range, quiet and cool)?

your asking alot of a poor generic 300 watter!
I would personally recommend at least 400 watts and dual fans.
you dont have to buy an Antec $100 brand name but Im sure you can get a few good suggestions for under $50
this being better of two at $42 with ship...........

The PowerMagic looks like a good deal. Personally, with an AMD system, I would get the best PS I could afford. And, I would definitely go to the AMD wesite and get one that is approved.

I use Enermax myself. I bought it when I put together a system built on a T-bird 1.1 I wanted one that would support a wide range of upgrades in the future. I have since upgraded to a XP2100 with no problems.

As for wattage, I agree, the more the better. 400 watts is good. But, stability is as key as wattage. So, get a good one.

So

enermax and antec are very nice . but if you are on a budget they might be outta the picture . but i agree you want a strong ps for amd , and you want one with dual fans . amd recomends a ps that has a fan in the bottom of the ps to draw heat off the cpu . here is one that i am useing now http://store.yahoo.com/akidacomputer/acpowsup50du.html i have the 400w version of this in my box with a barton 2500 on a asus a7n8x board burner, dvd cdrom 120 gig ti4200 areoflow hsf 3 case fans and the 400w one werks fine and steady .
