MSI K7N2 Delta + AMD XP2800: System almost starts, then nothing.
Hello. Hopefully you people can help me. I just bought a MSI K7N2 Delta and a AMD XP 2800. I only have the motherboard the CPU/HSF hooked up, system will power on only after i unplug cord and reset the power supply. When it does power on it starts up for about 1 sec. then shuts off. It won't power up again unless do all that funny business with the power supply. I've made sure the motherboard is not shorting out, and that all the jumpers have been set correctly (to my knowledge anyway). Anyone know what's up with this?

I re read your post and it seems you need to have a LOAD on the PSU. I would attach a CDROM or something that uses the 12volt molex to see if it works.

I've tried booting with ram, video card, hardrives, but took 'em all out.

Perhaps a silly question, but does your powersupply have a voltage switch on it, and is it set correctly?

Assuming you haven't resolved this issue yet, I'd suggest you start over.
Remove the CPU from its socket, and then reinsert it making sure it is positioned correctly and re-attach the heatsink and fan.
Add a video card, and RAM. Hook up power, and give it ago.
Some AMD boards required that the CPU fan be plugged into a header on the motherboard so that it could monitor the CPU fan RPM speed, and without doing so, the motherboard circuitry would shut the system down almost immediately if it thought the fan wasn't spinning. This was to prevent accidental overheating and damange of the CPU. If you are not plugging the CPU fan into that header on your motherboard, and it requires it, this may be a reason it shuts down almost immediately after powering up.
