this is actually nothing new, we've been following the SCO vs IBM suite for quite a while. also we think that SCO will lose pretty badly because a) they don't really have a case as novell has proven and b) they're going up against IBM, a major industry player who isn't going to just roll over.

Heh, no problem. It's pretty frustrating for the linux community, but it's been taken rather lightly. SCO is about 1/16th the size of IBM, and a company like IBM isn't going to stand around and get sued. Throw Novell and one VERY dedicated community into the mix, and you have a soap opera playing right over the Internet. I suggest you get some popcorn, as I have done

hehe, that's about right redwolf...i find it rather entertaining really. i can't wait till SCO alienates just about everyone in the computer world and ends up with nothing to show for it. i'm not worried about it. the only reason we would get worried is if microsoft actually DID have something to do with this and decides to get involved (they could probably spank just about any other corporation in court i would imagine).

So, do tell, for what software is this 'code' in question being used?
Those 80 lines reside somewhere.... Actually in the kernel?
If so, Linus probably has the ability to identify whomever donated the code in question, and it is all downhill from there.

i'm not really certain which portion of code is the culprit, but SCO is claiming that it was IBM that introduced this code. novell, however, came forth and said that they actually wrote the code and just licensed it to SCO (SCO claims that novell sold the rights to the copyright as well as permission to use the code).

See? It's aready as confusing as a soap!

The thing is, SCO hasn't said WHERE or WHAT the code is, yet. They will have to eventually. It's like me saying theres a stolen item in your house, and saying no more. What is the stolen item and where is it? Most believe the code is in the kernel, since SCO said Linux pretty specifically.
