CR-ROM / power supply problem...

Hi, I'm having some troubles with my CDR drive. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesnt work. What I mean is that the cd-rom does not get power. I've contact the shop where I bought my cpu and he said to check if the power reached the CD from the power supply.

I didn't know how, so he said to bring my cpu to the store so they can check it... But it will take a couple of days and I really need to use my cpu this week. So, my question is : Can someone help check if the power goes from the power supply to my CD???

Thx

Open your case. On the back of your CDR you will see a connector with one yellow wire, one red wire, and two black wires. This supplies the power to your CDR. You will notice the same type of connector going to your hard drive, and there may also be some spare ones that are not connected to anything. You want to make sure that connector is securely plugged into the CDR.

how dou you know it is not getting power all the time?
the green led is not always supposed to be lit and it is not supposed to spin the cd all the time either....just stating obvious, no hit/no foul!
pull the molex connector plugged into back of drive off and make sure that all metal "plugs" are even and at same height/not pushed down in.
make sure pins in back of drive itself are not bent.
Good Luck!

well, it is not getting power all the time because it can't open... and when I start the computer the cd does nothing.

the connector is plugged in the CD-R. I'll try to check if the pins are all straight.

thx for your quick tips
