Any disadvantages of hibernating?

I never really shut my computer off in the traditional way, I set my computer to hibernate. That is when the ram is put onto the hard drive so the next time you start the computer, are exactly where you left off. I've even went into hibernation when playing a game, when the computer turns on the game is back exactly where i left off lol.

What I'm wondering is if there is any downside to what I am doing. Do some programs really need a good hard shut down?

I don't think many programs need hard shutdown unless your are having performance problems with the programs.

But then, most people who optimize their computers will turn off hibernation (in XP) because it uses up to 500-1000MB of disk space and eats up some of your processes by running continously.

In theory hibernation dumps the memory to the drive and allows "almost instant" powerup. I personally don't care for it. It is aimed primarily at laptops and will create a file that is the size of your physical memory that you cant delete.

I say if you arent having any problems with it and like what it does keep using it.
