Kids 5.1 Speakers help

I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI Sound Card. Does this sound card need anything special to get the true 5.1 surround sound? When I watch DVD's it doesn't seem to have the surround sound. Just sound comming out of the 5 speakers. Any body have this setup that can help? Thanks in advance.

What speaker do you ahve... is it digital or optical?

Also you need to go to surround sound and change it to 5.1!

I have the Logitech Z-640 Speakers. Under the sound settings I have it set under 5.1 for the speakers. Is there any special cables I need?

Ok, here's what you need to do.

First, upgrade your dirvers. Thsi makes sure everything will work in the first place. You can get them at www.soundblaster.com .

Next, you need to plug the speakers in the right way. There should be 3 plugs. 2 are the front and rear plugs, make sure you plug them in the right plugs (the 2 jacks on the farthest left next to the gameport. The left jack if for the rear, the right is for the frint on my card. It could be reversed on your card. Check the manual). The third, the one with 2 threads instead of 3 on the plug, is the digital plug. This goes in the jack farthest to the right (the jack raised slightly above the rest, may be a different color).

Go into your surround mixer (under the Creative menu). Go to 'speakers'. Choose 5.1 surround and test it. If it still doesn't work, look for the option marked 'Install speaker presets' or something like it under the Creative menu, and try setting it to 5.1 again.
