is my monitor dying?

I just noticed this a few mins ago- but my monitor "jitters". The effect is similar to that if you turned up the v-moire way up on your monitor. Or like when you degauss, and the screen shakes for a little bit... My friend said he saw it a few days ago, and I just now see what he's talking about. It's pretty subtle right now, but there is a monitor we have at work that has this same problem but MUCH worse (oscillations of a few mm).

Is this a sign of a dying monitor or does it just need a little recalibration? I know there are usually extra controls on monitors (i.e. focus, etc) that are usually only accessible from behind the monitor (sometimes with a plastic screwdriver)- maybe one of these controls this jitter and needs to be adjusted?

I have the problem when my portable phone goes off if it is close to the monitor. You are probably getting interference from somewhere.

Any other wireless stuff going on near your monitor?

It might just be the cable going bad.

hm. It's possible but I'm not sure interference is causing it. I do have numerous wireless devices near my monitor (cordless phone, wireless mouse, wireless KB) but I have had them for nearly a year now and have never noticed any of these problems before. Was I just spacing for 9 months?

If it just started then I would check your monitor connections and stuff. My Nextel cell phone always screws up the monitor and the speakers!!!

Hehe I feel pretty dumb but I figured it out... there was a heat wave here a week ago and so I put a small desk drum fan on my desk to cool me off. It was the cause of the interference it seems- because when I take it away the jittering goes away.

Thanks for the tip about the interference

How can you get a new cable for a monitor? aren't they soldered onto the board inside it?
