Netgear router

Well I just bought a Netgear RP614 router.
It was a little difficult to setup, I don`t know what I did but it works now, after some attempts.

So..now do I have to do something to turn on the NAT?

NAT: Stands for Network Address Translation

The NAT broadband routers that are available today do this automatically.

What it means basically is that you can have multiple pc's on the private side LAN able to connect at the same time to one ip address on the WAN side. This is done by the router automitically.

ops....then I meant the Firewall. DO I have to do something to turn it on?

Plus....I just did a bandwidth test and this are the results

3 Megabit per second

Storage 367.3 kilobytes per second

1MB file download 2.8 seconds

I went from 1.9 Megabit to 3!!!

IS is possible that it is the router???

WOW!

Did you have a older router on the wire before the Netgear?

The Netgear is also a switch isn't it? That helps in organising packets for transmission, by creating multiple collision domains. Do you have just 1 system or more?

The reason I asked is because some older (read cheaper) routers have a higher overhead and actually diminish your total bandwidth.

Maybe the ISP upped your speed in the middle of the night without telling yah =) Congrats either way, thats a lotta juice you've got now!

You don't have to do anything either for it to be a firewall. The router will only let through from the web anything you initialized. Someone on the outside is blocked from your pc. It also blocks all the ports on your pc unless your decide to forward a port for say a website or ftp etc.

The router is not speeding up your connection. It would be the same speed without it. You happen to have a good cable provider. A T1 dedicated connection can cost $300 a month. A T1 is 1.45Mb/sec. Your download speed is close to having two T1's. Thats COOL!. My cable is the same way
