a) Each machine needs to use the same workgroup, and have the same username and password. You will need to logon locally to the laptop with the domain on it.

b) Yes and Yes

c) No it is not needed on either machine

A) each machine must be on the same WORKGROUP--TRUE
each machine must have the same username/ PW---False

authentication is done locally, no need for common username/pw access is allowed to only those folders where permissions have been given to"Share on the network". Also ensure each machine has it's own unique machine name (PC1, PC2, Lap1, etc). (When on a domain authentication takes place at the Domain Controller)

I a peer to peer lan you need to set the username and password the same if you don't want to have a logon box appear. The next time you turn on your pc and you want to access the other one you will get the logon box.

This was the case using mixed win98 and w2k pro machines. Maybe XP is different.
