Kids Best AMD chip for overclocking?

ok,

I have now decided on this system...parts ordered already:

ABIT NF7-S 2.0version $124
ABIT GEFORCE 4 Ti4200-8X Ti 4200 128MB video card $127
WORKS 430watt PSU $50
Chieftec Dragon Case $74
512 megs Kingston 2700 memory $59
havent decided on HDD yet.

Now I need to decide on a processor. Any ideas on what would give me good overclockability, performance, and not hurt my wallet too much?

The best BFTB overclocker right now is the DLTC 1700+ week 319. $60 at www.svc.com/

Newegg is shipping some week 319 2500+ Bartons (proving to be good overclockers) retail for only $96:

What will give me the best for under $100 (retail box)....

Or what will last the longest before I have to upgrade for under $100?

I've read all of the threads on barton 2500+ VS 2600+ XP and I can't draw any conclusions. Then somebody mentioned that the 1700+ overclocks to higher than a barton overclocked.

I'm really confused now.

i dont know too much about overclocking, but only some of the 1700's are able to oc better than the 2600. I think they were thoroughbred b's and there was some other special thing to them. the multipliers were already unlocked.....i dont know, someone else can explain this because im not to spiffy on the subject.

If I get a 1700+ and over clock it like this I'll need a better HS/fan combo that retail won't I? Would this offset the value of just getting a better processor and leaving it at it's stock speed with the original HS/fan?

I think a lot of it is luck of the draw. Some oc better than others.

I have heard a lot of stories about the 1.7 oc'ing very well.

I have a 2.1 oc'd to run at 2200 without even trying, so its running closer to a 2.7XP. That was the first time I have oc'd a chip and it was as easy as, well as easy as a really easy thing.

Clock it and rock it. DO NOT BE A *****.

If you get one of those 1700 DLTC's from SVC you'll have enough left over for a decent HS/F.

Honestly though, the HS/F's that come w/ the retail aren't as bad as folks say. I think extra case fans make more of a difference. Some of those fancy shmancy things are way over rated and over priced.

If you want retail, go w/ the 2500+.

Yes...If your sole interest ids not just experimenting with overclocking thensimply buy the highest speed processor you can afford!
Overclocking is extra work... it is extra money (cooling), ....it is stressful.......and it can be wonderfully fulfilling, but, if it is not the main purpose behind your build, then go with stock now...enjoy your upgrade for awhile and then later if you feel it necessary ....
overclock the heck out of it!
Realistically you wont notice a huge difference in day-to-day speed from your average overclock, once your talking about 2000+ XP's and higher CPU's.
Plenty of other bottlenecks to worry about!
