Kids did my p4 reach its max oc?

ok, i have my p4 1.7 oc'd to 1.87 ghz. i did this by raising the fsb from 100 to 110. if i put the fsb to 112, my comp starts restarting in the middle of gaming, and gives error messages at startup. the temps are the same so it can't be an overheating thing. is this the max my cpu can oc? because ive read about other p4 1.7s being overclocked to 2.2 and beyond. and if this is the max my p4 can go, how in the heck do people get these things over 2 ghz? oh and the multipliers on p4's are locked right?

system specs:

p4 1.7 @ 1.87
256 mb RDRAM (pc 800)
asus p4t-e mobo
asus geforce fx 5200

Up the Core voltage. I dont know about them being locked but I dont think they are. You probably have to raise the multiplyer with dip switches on the MOBO. Up the FSB as far as you can and up the core voltage then try to up the multiplyer.

Intel chips have been multiplier locked since the PII days, I believe. No amount of fiddling will unlock the P4, to my knowledge.

I think that I've heard the same thing before, slinky. What you may or may not want to do, is adjust the RAM clock ratio and see what happens. From what I've read, the P4T-E board allows this, though I don't know where you'd find it in the BIOS. Lower the ratio and try 112 again. It's probably the memory.

I had the p4t-e. Its under chipset features in bios.... If I set from 4x to 3x mem multi my NEC mem (rambus pc 800) would let me go to 120mhz fsb. I was getting 1.8gig outta a 1.5gig willy.
