load balancing solution

i m working on a port based load balancing solution in which i have to forward data to other computers (nodes) based on port

what are the ways to program this solution in the most effective manner.
TCP doesnot seem to be the obvious option
then we are left with udp only

Are there any recommendations or techniques to make this solution more effective with regards to processing

IMO, forwarding based on port is never going to be 'balanced' out among nodes.

Assuming you mean, for example, port 21 will goto Node A, port 22 will goto Node B, port 80 will goto Node C...

Or do you have another idea of ports in mind?

What kind of payloads are in these packets? As in, what kind of data are you balancing, etc?
