Need MS Hotfix 329909 or 813818

Looking for a recent sbp2port.sys file from Microsoft (like April or May of this year) This should be included in either hotfix 329909 or 813818.

I am getting some sbp2port.sys errors on my large drives that I run via firewire off my notebook. I have a wd 250 gig, a wd 160 gig and a wd 120 gig. I only seem to get the errors on the larger drives. I had the drives daisy chained, but I even get them if they are each attached directly to the controller card. I am using an Adaptec Fireware Connect card and have tried to directly connect to my notebooks firewire port. I get the errors regardless of the connection / controller. I am able to store and retrieve data but I get the following errors periodically:

I got the same problem. And it is getting worse. In the beginning i had no problem in operating my 250GB FW Drive for a day or two without errors. Now I get an error after 10 minutes. The Controller does not recognize the drive anymore. Even afert a reboot the controller is not working.

I got all Service Packs and updates. It does not help.

Any suggestions????

I hate just to echo your problem, but I'm having the same issues as well. Very annoying!

I am using a dell latitude c840 with a iogear ion 80 gig external hard drive. There is a single partition on the drive.

Basically I’m getting exactly the same behavior you are getting.

My copy of sbp2port.sys is version 5.1.2.1106 on XP Pro.

For some reason MS seem reluctant to make there hotfix available, and of corse there is no guarantee it will fix our problems.

If I get resolution to this I’ll let you know. Please do the same.

A little more info...

I do know why things seem to get worse... upt to the point where the OS won't mount the drive anymore.

What happens is that the paging errors occur while the OS is updating the System Volume Information for the drive. Eventually the corruption gets so bad the OS can't recognise the drive anymore.

I don't know if you guys have the option, but my drive has a USB 2.0 interface as well. I hooked the drive up that way it it works like you would expect.

I'd rather use the IEEE 1394 interface, but this seems to work for now. Perhaps XP SP2 will provide more compatible drivers.

Systems USB2.0 no problems

Well I switched to USB 2.0. I bought an PCMCIA Controlller for USB 2.0. No problems anymore.

But I did not buy an expensive Notebook with Firewire tu buy an usb2 controller to use my HD.

If you know something new about this issue... let me know

Similar issue

I suspect I need a new version of sbp2port.sys also. I have a Smartdisk Firelite 40G hard drive I have never gotten working. The problem is sbp2port.sys error ID 9. As soon as the drive is plugged in, it occurs every 10 secs. After a while (about 10 mins) the disk finally is recognized in the device manager, but not in the disk manager. From what I am reading here, I suspect it is gradually connecting with a lot of I/O errors in the process. (This error ID is the only one I ever get, though.)

I have a Dell Latitude CPx running W2K at SP4.

I found this in the MS Know Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q290089

and also this:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q311430

(Note: quick reply may be wrapping the link)

I also found this on EventID.net (if you can get to it without a logon:

By the way in reference to my last post two things:

1) Maybe this isn't relevant to most of you who are on XP, I don't know.

2) I applied SP3 and SP4 and neither updated the sbp2port.sys and 1394bus.sys files as described by microsoft.

Typical MS baloney. They continue to churn out software that doesn't work, and then make your life miserable trying to get it to work without taking any meaningful responsibility for it!

So I have downloaded SP3 in total and am hoping to extract the needed files from this (even though I am at SP4). I read on one of there web sites that the online upgrades make decisions about what files they will download to save bandwidth. Perhaps it was this "feature" that decided I didn't need this files updated. One wonders what other fixes in these service packs aren't being applied.

Boy MS annoys me!

By the way, in the late hours I forget to put in the file and version information I was looking for. If anyone knows how I can get these files, please drop me an email:

millsspam@orci.com

Here are the files and versions:

Date Time Version Size File name
--------------------------------------------------------
4/11/2001 03:20p 5.0.2195.3489 41,584 1394bus.sys
4/11/2001 03:03p 5.0.2195.3489 34,160 Sbp2port.sys

It appears they only show up if you have installed firewire on your system. I am guessing this is why the were never upgraded, as I hadn't had firewire running at the time I applied SP3 and so it probably decided it didn't need to send those files across the net. The directory they should both be in is:

C:\WINNT\systems32\drivers

I have the same issues and I tested:
- on Win2K SP3, WinXP SP1 (fresh install), Win Server 2003 (Fresh Install - sbp2port.sys v5.2.3790). Also on different systems with different 1394 cards.

- I tried 813818 patch (sbp2port.sys v5.1.2600.1172).

- I even used the Windows Server sbp2port on WinXP!

It sounds like copying from internal drive to external drive has almost no problems (even copying gigs) and the issues arise when copying BETWEEN partitions.
I have one particular test: I can copy a 700MB movie from external disk to internal, but not from external partition A to partition B (event viewer reports a bad block!).

Do you observe the same behavior ?
