Help with networking with DirecWay?

Well my father purchased a DirecWay system some months ago, and for awhile everything worked fine. We had a network cable running from his computer down to the other computers in the house, and we would just switch the cable between whichever computer needed the connection. However, now the connection just doesn't work on any other computers. Sometimes it will recognize the network cable is in, and give us a little pop-up saying the LAN is enabled or whatever, but the internet itself won't work. However, other times it just won't even detect the cable. Because of all this, we have been shunned to using 56k, which is horrible. Anyone have any suggestions? Tommorow I'm going to get get my cable modem from my other house, and try using that to see if it makes any difference. Other than that, I have no clue what may be wrong. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sounds like you've been plugging and unplugging this cable quite a bit.. maybe its got some wear in it.. or maybe the internal plug on the 'direcway' is worn out... I'm not familiar with 'direcway' so can't help on anything specific with that..
Have you tried swapping network cables?

Well the cable runs through the wall, so I can't really swap it out. I figured it might be the cable, which sucks. And the cable actually doesn't get switched all that often, as I generally don't have my computer over at the house with the satellite, so it just stays in one computer. Apparently it just stopped working one day.

OK, a little update. It now always detects the connection, but apparently it only sends data rather than receive also. If that helps you any.

What operating system are you using? Depending on that if its win98 or winMe do this:

Click Start
Select Run
type "winipcfg" in the field
select your ethernet adapter and click the "more" button"
Post what you see here.

If its XP or W2K do this:

Type" ipconfig /all" without the quotes. Post the results here.

meese, I am running XP, and it doesn't seem to have done anything. On my brothers computer, it actually recognizes the network now, but it still wont share the connection, although it is set to on the computer on which DirecWay software is setup.

I have the same thing happen with my cable. If I change PCs I have to power cycle the modem, I am assuming it has something to do with ARP or MAC address.

When the Directway modem is connected. Go to the command prompt and type " ipconfig /all" without the quotes. Post the results here. This info can be very helpful.
