comp fails to boot up

AMD Athalon 2000XP
Gigabyte 7ZXE mobo
60gb Western Digital
20gb Maxtor
ATi Radeon 7500
WindowsME/Mandrake 9.1

Ok...I pulled off my AMD Duron 1300 the other day to replace the thermal paste. When I replaced the processor and powered back up the computer...it failed to start up. Well, it powers up, everything lights up, the fans turn on, the cd light comes on(all normal), then nothing! No bios screen!

I thought I had fried my processor so I went and purchased the 2000XP and still the same results. I have checked the ram, unhooked everything, used a different vid card and tried to boot with the minimum amount hardware with the same outcome. I have checked all of my connections, have unhooked them all and reconnected them...same with all of my drives. Everything seems to power up like normal but the bios screen never comes up. Nothing at all appears on the screen.

Is there a reset switch for my mobo? Is this a bios problem or something more severe?

I'm still a self-confessed newbie as far as building PC's is concerned, but I thought maybe the BIOS problem??
or worse would be a fried mobo??

....or try booting with system disk, and either just reinstall, or even format and reinstall??

Clear the CMOS and try it again.

Should be a jumper to clear it,look in the manual, or go to the website.

Good luck

I had a similar boot up problem. It worked again after I ripped everything out and rebuilt the entire computer.

i don't know about this board i have never used it but i know some boards won't boot if the cpu fan isn't connected to the cpu fan plug on the motherboard . it is a fail safe so if you fan isn't working the cpu doesn't get fried . check to make sure you pluged the cpu fan into the fan plug marked cpu fan on the motherboard . i hope it is something that simple .

well...oddly enough, doing what Chiguy suggested did the trick! Thanks for that tip! I am up and running and I got a faster processor out of the deal! Guess it was all good in the end! Thanks for the suggestions all!
