Need basic instructions on file transfer

between an xp pro laptop and a 2k desktop with a cable modem and a d-link di-604 router. It is basically at nothing because, i have them both as administrator when logging in and different passwords. So, basically i don't know what to do from there. They both can browse the net but neither can see each other. I don't know what to do. Thanks. If i am not clear enough on the subject, let me know, i'll be glad to tell you general stuff with the current setup. Thanks again.

Well, if both comps see the internet but can't see each other, the hard part is done and it should be easy to set up the rest.

Start here and follow the instructions to set up one machine then the next:
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-update.asp

Post back if you need more information.
