TEKOBYTE is on a distinguished road
Kids Wacom Graphire 2 on Redhat 9

Hi There,

I am trying to get into Linux,
because Windows just plain
sucks some times... I am pretty
new to Linux, so please keep
that in mind.

I am running Redhat 9 on an
AMD K7, 320 megs of ram, ATI
Radeon 7000 AGP 32 meg.

I have some odd hardware,
among which is a Graphire 2
graphics tablet from Wacom.

I downloaded the drivers that are
linked to from the Wacom site.
I was able to configure and make the
drivers. (I typed in exactly this:
./configure
make -just if you were wondering)

Anyway, I am still having a little
trouble with it. It at least works, but
it still has acceleration, and the area
on the tablet does not map correctly to
the the screen. (I mean, for example:
the upper-right corner of the tablet area
shoud be the upper right corner of the
screen, but it isn't. It is close, but not quite.
etc...)
Also, the mouse has acceleration, and it most
definitely should not for tablet...

There are some links from the driver site,
but since I am new to Linux, I don't really
understand them.

Any help I can get, even in understanding
the links from the site, or even better, a step
by step walkthoug... would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Derek Moucne

hello,
xset will help with accelerations problems, use xset -m ## - for the issue of not being able to reach the whole screen xsetpointer may help.

you may also want to see what options there are at complie time, many times a ./configure --help will give usefull tips.

Odds are very good there are several spelling mistakes in this post.

I don't have one of these so I won't profess to give advice to solve your tablet issue, but I can tell you to be sure and read the HOW-TO
very carefully, paying particular attention to the section on Configuring XFree86.

BTW -Linux "just plain sucks sometimes" too

Thanks for the help.
I tryed both, the xset and x setpointer
and that helped a bit. I have
read that tablet aren't great under linux...

I am running Wine on Linux too,
so I am able to do most things in
linux. (yay) and my 56k connection
downloads at 3.5 k a sec, instead
of 1.5 in windows, so Linux is here
to stay... (along with win98 dualbooting)

Thanks for the help,
Derek
