Abit BH6 Won't Post

I have a BH6 mobo running a Pentium III 600 that just recently had 256 megs of ram. The CPU posted and showed 128 megs so I figured I would pull both sticks and see which was bad so I could replace it.

Since pulling both sticks no matter what order I put the ram in it won't post. It starts but then just hangs without even outputting to the monitor. After playing with my RAM and trying to find a slot that it would like I have seen my NIC light up, and sometimes not. Odder even is my keyboard's LED's will stay lit with a blink here and there when RAM is in slot's 1 and 3.

I have a brand new 128 that I tried putting in but it still won't load. Also when troubleshooting I took a cele 300a and put it on the mobo to see if it was my CPU. The fan doesn't even click on.

Anyone have any idea how I can resolve this?

did you try reseating the agp card . the dimm slots are right next to the agp card and are kinda blocked by it . maybe you moved it just anuff to make it not get a signal .

I tried doing that, as well as cleaning the connections on the AGP slot.

I am still stumped as to why this will not boot. I can't imagine it is the mobo that is fried though..

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but are you familiar with the bad capacitor problem?

There are many many bad capacitors on the market that have caused problems like yours.

I had the problem happen on 3 of my abit vp-6 boards.

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/WEBONLY...eb03/ncap.html

Look for bulging tops on the capacitors or leaking brown ooze.

And unless your board is a VP6 it is not worth the trouble of replacing the capacitors!!!! It is a long and difficult process where the risks are high even if you are experienced.

Good luck
