Video card prices....

Just a random thought I had, but I just noticed on an ad at the top of the page that a Radeon 9800 Card is $399.99.

WHY are video cards so dang expensive?
I mean, I can understand that it's brand new and top of the line, but $400 is ridiculous for a video card... It's not like you get the Monitor included with it or anything!
Processors too... Why is it that the newest ones will retail around $500.00?
I just don't get it.

Maybe I'm actually just mad because the XP1800 I bought last summer for $129.99 retail is now about $50.00.
And the Geforce4 Ti I bought for $170 is now down to $100.

Why don't the manufacturers just price this stuff low to begin with? They'd have a lot more sales that way in my opinion, rather than slapping a 300% increase on the price tag.

Because people will buy it. You try to get as many sales as you can at the high prices and when they stop coming you have to lower the price to get more money. Anyway, that is how it is with everything, if its new its expensive. ALso, if the demand is high and the supply is low, its gonna be more expensive, but i dont think that really has anything to do w/ video thats much. I dont really know how else to explain, maybe someone else can....

heh, yeah, I see your point.
I guess I'm just disgruntled because I can never afford anything that's all new and fancy. And when I am able to afford it, it's already far outdated..
Oh well, guess I'll just have to live with it.

But I can honestly say that if a Radeon 9800 would be let's say... $250.00, I could get a whole crew of people to buy them...
