I have a quick question.
I am running two 40 gig Seagate drives (St3400165A)
I got Siguardian HDD TemperaturePro so to see the temps of both drives, and I get confsuing reports.
It says one drive is running at 39C and the other is at 30C.
The drives are one blow the other with some spacing in between.

I have high temps since I am using a Sonata case and still have not purchases a Vantec Stealth for the intake fan, so I am runing only with an exhust and PS fan.

But does this seem strange that two identical drives have such a huge difference in temps?
Or can the SMART reporting be faulty?

I had a similar experience...

http://www.techimo.com/forum/t65383.html

I was concerned with my HD temps so i bought a HD rack/cooler

which has a temp display on it.

well, after i installed it i realized that the temp on the Rack and the temp that Sisguard displayed were different.

It seems Sisguard isn't that good after all..

So i got rid of SisGurdian

Hehe, well when I touch my drives they seem warm, and I know they are warmer than normal, since the Sonata uses rubber groumets to prevent vibrations, so the drives lose the cooling properties of the case, also I have no intake fan yet.
I will leave Siguard till I get my fan, look at the temps and get rid of it when I am satisfied with the results.

Funnything I was looking for your post since that is where I heard of the program, and I wanted to find the link again.

If you really want lower hard drive temperatures, you should do what I did - cut holes in the front where the hard drive is. I taped up all holes on the computer except for what i wanted as the intake and outtake vents then used a rotary saw to cut a circular hole in the front of my case where the 2 hard drives are. My hard drives used to be really hot to the touch since they were touching each other. Now, they are cold to the touch; all air entering the case passes by the hard drives first.
To protect against things like bugs, I got some fine netting like the kind you find in a butterfly catching net and I taped that infront of the hole

Well I got my secondary fan, and I must say my temps are looking better.

Both drives are now in the low 30's high 20's.
No noise increase whatsover, at least I did not notice any and that is all that matters in the end.

using an Athlon XP 1700+ with a Thermalright SLK 700 (TDM fan).
My current temps are in the low 40's for both case and CPU, telling me that I can go lower but the case temp is holding me back. These temps are under regualar working conditions, ie watching a movie, surfing the web, playing some emulators, etc.
Can't say what I get under full load since I have not done anything very taxing yet.

At the moment I am thinking of upgrading my two segates to one 160 gig Maxtor, doubling my storage, and creating alot less heat.
That should drop my temps by 1 or 2 deg C.
