Radeon 9700 or 9800??

I was originally going to get the radeon 9800 but people have said there isn't a real performance increase in the 9800 from the 9700.. so should I just save the extra money and go for the 9700?

Thanks,

Todd

Hey there, i have the same question, what model are you thinking of getting? I might get the 9800 256 when the price drops.

9700 is a way better deal now. Unless you're rich. I'm planning on getting the regular 9700 for under $200 pretty soon.

If you're waiting on lower prices you'll never buy a card. The 10,000PRO will come out and you'll be comparing prices to the 9800PRO and waiting for it to come down in price.

When GF3 came out and was $400 I got my GF2PRO for $150. They became obsolete at about the same time and I saved $250. Same thing will happen with 9700 and 9800. Just get the 9700 now and enjoy the rest of your money. Buying one or two generations behind will give you the best bang for your buck. If my GF2PRO can play todays games just fine, 9700 will play games just fine for a long time.

I'm getting the 9700NP myself pretty soon when I start building my next PC.

Use the correct Catalyst 3.2 - v6.14.10.6307 patch and you can flash the 9700 to a 9800.

I say go for the 9800 pro. {Bragging rights}. Thats what I have . I don't upgrade my video card very often though. I used to have a Geforce 2 pro, but got rid of it cause My ATI rage pro played everything I wanted, which is what I used until now. Honestly though, I would buy a 9500 Pro and O/C it. Way cheaper and it has more pipelines. The performance will nearly be the same I'd bet.
