oh great.. monitor is just turning off....

so last night i hear this really really high pitch (not too loud though) whine coming from what I thougt was my CPU (in retrospect it could have been the monitor)... I thought.. aww crap.. is my hard drive dying?

then it went away... a little while later -- my monitor just turns off... it didn't lose power - it just behaved like the power settings had told it to go into power save mode (for lack of a better description) read as: the little orange power light was on, but it wasn't green like when it's getting a signal. I happend to be working on stuff at the time and i was like "ARRRGGHH"... but instead of just resetting, i noticed that the computer seemed to still be running just fine. so I hit CTRL-S and then rebooted.

upon startup, i discovered that my file had saved exactly where i last finished typing when the monitor went out. this leads me to believe that there is somthing possibly wrong with either the vid card or the monitor. anyway, it happened two more times this morning and i'm pretty annoyed with it.

do any of you have any advice for me?

Some monitors have a deguass. Try that. Or a factory reset.

Try another monitor. See if the same condition occurs. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad monitor.
