IDE Conflicts?

Hey all, I have a question about my DVD Burner. It won't work. I mean it does but, it is disabled. I have tried going into the Device Manager and enabling it but, It will say that it can't be enabled because the device has either a conflict or something saying the hardware is bad (not exactly sure, I am not at my computer now). Well, first off I should give you a little more detail about my hardware. I have 3 Optical drives....I have my cd burner and my dvd-rom on the onboard IDE as well as my hard drives. I had the Sony DRU500A on a RAID all by itself. It didn't work then so I moved it to the onboard and changed the jumper from cable select to slave. It still didn't work then..... It used to work. It just all of a sudden stopped working. I am using Windows Enterprise Server 2003.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, the RAID setup's that I have dealt with will not let you use anything but a HD on the RAID channels. I believe this is standard on IDE setups.
Might want to try to setup the DVD burner as Master on IDE 1.
Setup the CD burner as Master on IDE 2 with the DVD-rom as the slave, that is if you are running the HD on the RAID.

Well, I have the HDD's running as primary master and primary slave. The CD burner as secondary master and the the DVD-ROM as secondary slave. The DVD burner was on a Silicon Image PCI RAID that I just put in there. If I didn't make this clear I moved the DVD burner to secondary slave. As I said...it used to work just fine.

Well, I found out what the problem was. It was my Samsung 40gb HDD. It was on its way out. I heard something like a cable hitting a fan the night before last and couldn't figure out what it was. I mean I had looked around for any cables hitting the fans and didn't see any......I didn't lose any data off of it because I hooked up my DVD burner and that hard drive in another computer so I could make a backup of it and partition it to install OS's on it. The DVD burner works just fine now. I am glad I still have a warranty on it. I bought the drive last March. Word of advice............Stay Away From Samsung HDDs.

LSI RAID contollers (some) will allow an alternate device on the second ch. (or...at least I've seen it...)
