Full-fledged Linux/UNIX forum
How cubbyholed I feel in this so-called Linux sub-forum ...oh if only we had a real forum... isolation. Quote:
"Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)"
Cubby Cub"by (k?b"b?), Cubbyhole Cub"by*hole` (-h?l`), n.
See Cub a stall.
A snug or confined place.
| -looked up, BTW, on SuSE Linux 8.1 -/Start?Office/Database/Dictionary
So many times I see a post in Apps & Opps that belongs in Tech Support or some other forum.....

Seems like the 'nix questions have dropped off ever since they split the Apps 'n OSs forum, though they were still turning up in the main forum for awhile.
I guess things will pick up when Redhat or Mandrake put out a new release;folks seem to regain interest when that happens.

I dont mind the stub forum, it saves me having to pick through the threads...assuming people post in the correct location.

Call me a paranoid pessimist, but I somehow think the "sub-forum" (can't even get here from the Forum Jump) is the result of complaints like:
"Like whats with all the annoying Lyneaxe posts in Apps & Opps?
Like I mean I go to find out how to get the "Going-Down-On-You-Now-stroke-your-ego" Word-XP macros working in Win98SE on my tripple-boot Win98/2K/XP box and my question just gets burried under all these Lyneaxe zealots posts.
Like it's obivous this site cators only to those Lineaxe religious goons because I couldn't find any other forum to post my networking-graphics-webdesign-hardware-gaming-techsupport-how-much-ram-in-win98-general-technical questions in..."
When in truth -aside from the sub-forum- they're all Basically Windows forums by defacto monopoly.
I sincerely hope the Linux sub-forum is not the result of requests by Linux users -please say it isn't so.
BTW- I just got an XP-Pro sticker license for $50 ...Why? Tech support baby .... I still do tech support for a Windows World.
For Microsoft 99% is not enough...

CMonster: I believe it was proposed and implemented to see how it went over. From what i remember it was warmly accepted as it at least separated things a bit.
I dont see why it would be such a big problem...maybe I am missing something here |

personally i'm fine with just a sub-forum, because really if we did that we would need to create 2 main forums, windows and *nix which would create issues when dealing with cross-platform questions. of course i could be wrong and we might actually never get those questions...my 2 cents

I kind of agree with CMonster. I suggested a Linux/Unix forum quite a while back and the thread was basically ignored. Then all of a sudden months later there is a Linux sub-forum. It's like we're being told to go play in the back yard while the adults hold serious conversations.
I really think a full fledged forum linked from the main forums page is in order.

The original subforum idea was suggested by many members, thus was implemented by request.
However, being the kind content director that I am , plus a Linux user myself, I have created a true Linux/Unix forum for TechIMO. Enjoy!
