Cant Burn a CD using Windows Media Player

Please help me! Recently i tried to burn an audio cd using windows media player. When i had it all set up i pressed copy, and watched with awe as a message came up saying "Interface not registered" This is new to me due to the fact that i have been able to burn cd's in the past with no problem. Later i tried burning a data cd, and it got to the very last point and then it said that it could not complete the cd burning process. And i had one more coaster to add to my collection. I have checked my settings I thought that i had it all set up correctly. But apparently it wasnt so please help me. Here are my stats:

Windows Media Player version 9
And an unidentified spinning device, 4XRW drive, rest is news to me.

Please help me out guys, i really need it!!!

From what I understand, Win Media Player 9 prevents you from copying a cd or some such. I read it in a review awhile back and can't recall the specifics - I just don't update to WMP9. Ya may want to uinstall WMP9 and go back to 8.

Do you also have Roxio (Adaptec) or Nero installed? I believe you'll need a plugin from thier site. Also, from what I can see, the only way to uninstall WMP9 is using system restore (which I always disable) .

How long have you been using version 9 and did this just start happening since you installed it? It looks like 9 isn't playing nice with older hardware.

Some Linkage:

Hope it helps a bit.

I have read the same thing in a few different places.
Version 9 is screwed up with copy protection so that you cant urn copywrited stuff, something to that effect.
You would have to go back to version 8, which will burn anything you want to burn.
Or use other burning sofware like Nero and others.

It won't help your immediate situation, but getting a drive that runs several time faster than your current drive will speed things up and prevent coasters (since all of them have some sort of buffer-under-run protection).

Nothing worse than getting right to the end of the burn and having it mess up.

I have some brand new burners that I would trade other parts for, new or used.

If interested please email me at kingbee@cogeco.ca
Just give me your forum name so I will know what you are talking about!
thanks

"Interface not registered" with Windows media player

I had the same problem on a Compaq Presario, and so did my brother. I think this problem has to do with a .dll not being registered. This could be caused by running the setup program for Windows media player, and then just throwing the files onto the hard drive (instead of running the setup program on the computer where the program will be used). In any event, you cannot delete Windows media player outright. What I did was to delete all of the files (at one time) in the folder c:\program files\windows media player, and then download, from Microsoft, the same version. Once I installed the program that I downloaded, everything was fine. It is important that you delete every file at the same time (in the Windows media player directory) or else they will regenerate themselves.

I've hard that WMP 9 has some issues with files and DRM. But my problem is that WM9 just doesn't want to recognize my CD RW drive. Windows and every other program (including other burning programs) recognizes the drive. It's not the drive. It's WMP9. The problem is not uncommon. Unfortunaely, I don't know enough about the drive, BTC 5224 to make a regedit from a similar drive that is recognized by WMP9.

I found out that Roxio 5 Platinum and Nero 5 will both burn WMA files directly. So "problem" solved. I can burn WMA and MP3 files.
