Help with Radeon 7000

First I would like to say hi, for I am new here.

Ok down to biz. My friend decided to buy a video card for his computer. Its an hp and has the intel onboard video cabability. He asked me if I would install it since I just networked and installed his ethernet cards(I am fairly knowlegeable about PCs, but I got stumped on this one) and I said ok. Well he bought a ati radeon 7000, PCI.(recommended by staples) I do not know a whole lot about vid cards so I went ahead and installed it. As you can guess it would not boot past the hp invent screen. After messing with it all night, and calling hp and ati tech support, I am here . I searched these forums (and found them) and have seen that there is a problem getting these cards to work on hp computers. We have done all the obvious stuff, disabling the onboard, enabeling pci from the bios system etc.

So I have 2 questions if anyone can help:

1. Has anyone found a solution to this problem of installing these cards on hp computers?
2. What kind of card can be installed in his pc?

Also does anyone know staples return police? Is he gonna have to eat 60 bucks cause the salesman didnt know the card would not work?

Thanks for any and all help.

Joe

Welcome to TechIMO.

I've never returned stuff to staples before, but since you bought the card brick-and-mortar, you should have no problems returning it.

Here's some help from ATI's website:
