Transfering a Large file over internet

I have a 300MB file that I want to send to someone. E-mail definatly won't work due to the file size limitations. I have CuteFTP and FlashGet. Isn't there some way to just "connect" the two computers so that I just send the files and the other computer recieves them?

Seems simple but I have no clue how.

Im not sure but is there a Limitation in Messanger I know that you can transfer files through there? Or what my friend does is through Kazaa. He makes a zip file and transfer through kazaa by you loggin on and him too and serching files by user name.

Send a message via AIM to iNeb
You could upload it to a web server via cuteftp and then have them download it over the web.

No free hosts offer that much space, you would need a paid host with a large file plan.

What would be nice is an FTP server to run. My personal fav is Typsoft FTP. Just setup a user to have access to a certain folder then put the big file in that folder..... do not use anonymous FTP because it's a security threat
If you are behind a router, forward ports 20 and 21 to the computer running the FTP server. I know 21 is a used port but I heard someplace that port 20 is used with FTP somehow.....I really have to check on that.

The easiest way I would imagine is for both of you to connect to some mirc server and you just dcc send the file to him.

Just like using messenger, isn't there a way to directly connect two computer's IPs?

I may just use Kazaa in the end.

Muno, that doesn't always work because IRC does not support resume. If your computer crashes or freezes or something happens while the other guy is downloading, you have to start over from scratch. With an FTP server, if the guy downloading off you is using a resume enabled download manager, he can just resume the downoad from where it left off

Well, you'd need to establish an FTP server on your computer, and he would need an FTP clinet, and the appropriate addresses and logins.

Never used CuteFTP, but I'd suggest if you are using windoze get a copy of Serv-U for your PC (free version), and set it up as an FTP server (only temporarily). Then read the instructions about setting up an FTP server, and how your friend can connect.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Mick

It doesn't? I guess what I have is supermirc then, I said mirc, not irc(like ircii, bitchx or whatever). Mirc does support resuming, and a lot of it too.

What you're saying about mirc method is the same true for ftp method, you can select ftp server not to support resuming. The same, you can select an irc client that doesn't support resuming.

Is resume a default setting for the client? I run mIRC in default settings and resume never seems to be on, could it be the host turning that feature off?
