Kids Abit VP6: round two

I have received my replacement VP6 and have succeeded in getting it to POST with both CPU's installed. So far, so good.

I am confused by one feature on this board. The manual makes reference to using IDE controllers 3 & 4 for adding additional devices. I do not intend to use a RAID array, but I would like to use these controllers to add an additional hard drive and CD burner.

My question: Do I install the Highpoint RAID drivers during my installation of WIN2K? If I do not hit F6 and install the RAID drivers, will IDE 3 & 4 work like any other IDE channels?

If your not booting of/installing windows on the the RAID controller then the drivers can be installed later. And yes they have to be installed to use them, not just for raid.

Also, the Highpoint controlers are not ment to support CD devices.

Thanks Neo

Is there ANY disadvantage to adding these drivers later? I'm curious as Win2K goes to a lot of trouble tryin' to get you to install early in the process...

Is there any reason I cannot use ONLY a single hard drive on one of the RAID channels?

I Pm'd ya also

Only use IDE 3+4 for HDD's

Whether you use a single hdd or 4.

Use ide1+2 for cdroms, etc.

Once you get the drivers (HPT370) on disk, install and hit F6 Windows will ask for drivers when it needs them.

Glad to hear a got POSTage

without going POSTal
