Microsoft plans to discontinue offering standalone Internet Explorer

As this ZDNet story says,
Quote:
From a legal and strategic perspective, Web users now face a situation in which the dominant browser, which achieved that dominance in large part by being offered free of charge, will now only be available as part of an operating system that costs $199 for the "Home" edition and $299 for the "Professional" edition. Upgrades for Windows XP Home and Professional cost $99 and $199, respectively.
Not a monopoly? Don't make me laugh.

no
instead of downloading internet explorer sp1, you'll now get updates to IE in the Win xyz service packs... it will no longer be treated as a coughcough standalone application (which it hasn't been for ages anyways) but will now be MORE integrated into the OS... freakin' yay

Yes indeed. Linux is looking more attractive all the time.

You know, I don't really even like the game Monopoly, and to see it in real life is even more disgusting.

e980238, you haven't used MS Office, have you? Slowest app I've EVER used. Go figure, eh?

Firebird (u2bka Pheonix) has come along quite nicely, but still isn't there yet. It's quite fast tho. I don't like the picture zoom thingly tho. One of the reasons I hated IE.
