WinXP Alternate Configuration Problems
I'm trying to set up a wireless-enabled laptop to work with w separate networks, one home network running DHCP and one office network using static IPs.
I've configured the main TCP/IP settings to use DHCP for the home network so I could configure the alternate configuration tab for the static IP office network.
The DHCP connection works fine, but when the laptop is brought back into the office, it seems to retain the IP leased to it by the DHCP home wifi router, much longer than the 60 seconds it is supposed to take to bypass it and use the alternately configured IP.
If I do an ipconfig /release and /renew, after awhile, it seems to work fine, using the alternate IP. Also, it seems that if the laptop is allowed to go into sleep mode, then brought back, it takes the alternate IP. But in normal operation, the first time the laptop is booted at the office after having connected to the DHCP home network, it tends to stay hooked on the DHCP generated IP.
Any ideas/suggestions?
