WINXIP AGAIN
Alright....so I just installed WinXP over my Win98 operating system, and suddenly these wierd things are happening. For instance, when I go to search for files on my computer, like you know, Find>Files, Folders. This installer pops up asking me if I want to install some office thing or something, it pops up about 5 times after I repeatedly hit cancel for the install. I have no idea what it is trying to install on my computer, furthermore it does it to one of our servers here at work?
Any idea how to make the horror stop?

I think that's for the search assistant, which I consider one of the stupidest things I've seen for quite a while.. It's an animated dog that appears in the left-hand pane of the search window.
You can turn it off by hitting "options" at the bottom of the search page, and then click "without an animated character"

Do you have MS office installed on your PC? If so you may need to pop in the cd and configure it for XP.

I do have MS Office installed, and everything else works fine except for Outlook, and that search engine quirk

Ok guys, I figured out the Outlook thing, but I still can't figure out why the Windows Installer loads up when I'm running a search on my computer?
It has nothing to do with the dog anymore, b/c there is no option to disable the dog anywhere in the search menu, so it has to be something else. This is a big problem, 2 of the computers at work have it and there is nothing about it on microsoft, big surprise.

Uh, probably it indexes the hard drive to speed up searches?
Just wipe and reinstall. That'll fix it.

When youdeleted the dog, you probably accidentely took out the whole search feature. Try reinstalling the dog and search, then zap the dog again. |
