MS Intellimouse optical problems

Is there a patch or fix for a MS Intellimouse explorer optical that stops it from lagging out or moving around on the screen all by itself?

OS Win2K, XP

Myself and other people I know have had these problems for ages now, the latest mouse drivers dont fix anything.


In one case a friend of mine when running Win XP it comes up with an error saying there is a problem with his USB device, as the mouse lags out, anybody familiar with this happening or know a fix?
