Virtual Memory over 2 drives and 4 partitions

Old system running winxp pro.....

Trying to get a game server working on one PC, stop laughing...anyw way...I haven't got loads of dosh, so was looking for tweaks way of fixing this prob i am having.....

After a while of game play PC will tell me the Virtual Memory is to small and make it bigger...causing game to crash, yes strange but i got to live with it for now.

Went to look at VM settings and VM is only set for C: , the game is run from f: SO would enabling VM on F: cause any problems?

Would enabling it on all partitions cause any problems....

Thanks for reading.

Peace.

PS...cant afford any upgrades til i get very lucky or the boss goes mad and gives us all 10000% pay rise :-D, yes i no getting more memory would go a long way to fixing my problem.

No, that will not cause any problems.
It might make searching the vm slower since it's divided over multiple partitions.

The more drives/controllers that the page file is spread over the better the performance. The offical MS way is to have the pagefile on a different drive and or controller than the system is on. The disadvange is if it bluescreens you dont get the memory dump.

OK, will do defrag and try it having F: as well as C: with VM.

If only i could remember the formula for VM setting up...

1.5x physical memory. 128=384 256=384 512=768

But about the formula there has been a lot discussion...
There's no point in having a huge swapfile if you have alot ram (eg. 512mb).

Over 1GB total memory is overkill. Total of 768 should be sufficient for anything...
