2Fast 2Furious Using Computer Animation????!!!?!!?!?!?!!?!!!
Now this just makes me mad. Not only does this movie represent the type of people that just take there car to a stupid shop and have them install $1000 worth of parts on it for $10000, but now they are using CAD to animate the races! I just saw the previews for it and i couldnt believe it. I hate this movie and i hated the first one which is why i never watched it.
It just makes me sick. I am a true mechanic, i have worked on cars and mechanical crap all my life. I used to work at my Grandfathers auto shop where we used to get all the school kids coming in asking if we could install some box of parts and crap that they had ordered from some mag. These kids now adays are so freaking stupid. They just get the mom's credit card and order a bunch of crap from some mag and have a shop install it for them. Now the whole world thinks that they are some car guru and girls are going crazy for this dumb @$$. Whats worse is they buy stupid bolt on **** too that doesnt even work but they think it does cause it says 20hp increase on the side of the box. That stupid tornado intake adaptor is a good example of a $70 rip off, but people wont stop buying it.
Im currently going to a tech school to work on aircraft. We had a bunch of kids in there that were always talking about how they know every thing about cars. After about 4 months of school when we started getting into technical stuff all those kids started failing and they dropped out shortly. They just couldnt hang with true technical knowledge and they wasted about $10000 of there parents money. Most of them said that they were going to go to some state college, going there cause of the girls. They going to go there and show off there stupid 4 cylinder and actually impress people. I cant believe it.
I remember when i was in high school i overheard this guy i knew talking about how he was going to "pimp out his truck" and that he was going to get one of those "things" that sticks out of the hood and looks cool. Then he also added "hey it even makes it go faster doesnt it?" So stupid, he didnt even know what a super charger was but he wanted one, even though one of that size would probly go for $7000 and is highly doubtful that it would even fit a truck. Its always about going faster....
Any true mechanic works on his own cars and/or any thing that breaks or needs to have its performance modified. He doesnt just simply take his crap to some shop. And any true mechanic knows that if you smash your cars exhaust pipe to a smaller diameter that you will get about 20 extra horse power...but there is a catch.......
So any one with me?
Im now going to sit back and see what i have started,

I forgot to add that im against films using cad just to cheapen the production cost like this movie. Any one see the original 1974 Gone In 60 Seconds? Best car movie ever made. It didnt need computer animation, just a couple 100 cars to smash.
"Ricing" is fine with me as long as it is the owner of the car that did the work, and not the owner showing off someone else's hard work and getting credit/fame for it.

I understand what you mean...same thing goes for PC's...I'm more impressed with the guy that built and modded his awesome PC from scratch...than with the guy that spent $3000 to buy an awesome PC that some factory built.
As far as the producers using 'CAD' or 3D animation for the car stunts, I don't have too much of a problem with that...although I didn't see the movie, some of the stunts probably couldn't have been done in reality...but I can't stand it when they really cheap out and the animation doesn't even look close to real...it's gotta look real enough for me to believe that it could've been done in real life.

im for the using of computer animation to complete impossible stunts and fx. But this movie animated a bunch of cars racing and flying through corners wtf. Looks like none of the stupid wanabe race car driver kids staring in that movie are race car driver quality. :/

Maybe they figured since they already shafted themselves by letting Vin Diesel go, they may as well finish the job. |

It seems that what this thread boils down to is a matter of ethics; mechanic ethic/values or whatever you want to call it. 311Sam, I would agree with you if I was as passionate about cars as you but I am not, so I wont pretend to be but I understand your direction.
As for movie makers, it doesn't matter. It'll makes money despite your beliefs and believe me, you not paying to see their movie doesn't hurt them one bit. Now get a million other viewers to see things your way, well that'll be diffferent. Not saying that your point of view is a solo perspective. It's just not often voiced. |

ck42866,
You are right in every way. Which is why it sucks to have my beliefs. Im not passionate about cars, I just dont like getting bent over and screwed. But while playing ut2003 it hit me; What kind of world would this be if everyone thought like me? Hmmm...inflation..

311Sam - my reply to this is I would rather see computer animation then a movie destroying possibly 100+ cars, just for a couple of scenes. I know this sounds stupid, but they are people out there that could really use those cars the movie makers destroy. I would rather see someone get a car that could get them back and forth to work that see it dropped off of a parking garage.
As far as the "ricers" are concerned, I see no difference in those guys and the other guys who have a Ford Mustang with a cherry bomb exhaust and a picture of Calvin pee'ing on a Chevy symbol. It’s all the same and to most of the world, it's called annoyingly loud and unnecessary since the speed limit is 55mph.
Just my $0.02
