Desktop Icons Problem

Anyone come across anything like this before?

Windows XP Home Edition
Genuis cordless keyboard & mouse

All of the above have been working fine for months until recently when my client clicks his desktop shortcust nothing happens. He has to click arouns adozen times to start the program(s).
Quicklaunch toolbard icons work fine.
Weird no?

Maybe his double click time got put way down?
