Speedstream 2604

Help!!

Problem: I am able to complete installation and pass the Internet test connection in the Setup Wizard window. But I can not connect to the internet of email. I must be missing some thing simple. Checked and re-checked but still the same problem.

Any ideas.

Thanks

Welcome to TechIMO oldtimer714.

My first though is that you must use the FQDN of the mail server.
Something like mail.myisp.com as opposed to just mail.

If you do not know the FQDN, tell us your ISP and we may be able to help.

I believe the Speedstream 2604 is a NAT based router.

What is your computer's OS?

You need to confirm some basics on the client computer:

What is your LAN IP address?
What is the Default gateway?
Waht is the DNS server set to?

On W2K/XP, all this can be found by running ipconfig /all in a command prompt window.

Did you just get DSL? Are you sure the accout has been opened by the your DSL provider?

You can try this:

From the PC, click on Start, then select Run, in the field type "winipcfg" without the quotes. You may have more than one device listed. You want to select your NIC card. Once you do you should see IP information related to the NIC. Click the More button. You will see even more info. If you can post the results here.

Are you familiar with the web based setup of the router? Usually you type the IP address of the router into your pc's web browser. Then you type in a user name and password to access the setup pages. There should be a Status page showing the external IP address assigned by your ISP, the Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS servers. Can you post what is displayed?

Those settings can't be right. If Internet IP was 192.168.254.3 then that may be okay.

Can you successfully ping 192.168.254.254 ?

If yes, can you open http://192.168.254.254 ?

Can you successfully ping 66.39.95.116 ?

If yes, can you successfully ping www.techimo.com ?
