invalid BOOT.INI file

whenever i start up my inspiron 3800 laptop, this message shows up

Invalid BOOT.INI file
Booting from C:\winnt\
NTDETECT failed

does anybody know how i can get rid of this message and be able to use my laptop?? If u do email me at Africanblaze666@aol.com...thanks.

Try with w2k bootdisk, and if it boots fine, copy the working files from the floppy to the hd.

Remove the floppy disk from the drive. It's probably trying to boot off of it.

Hey guys...thanks for the warm welcome....i didnt kno this was the wrong forum for this kind of info...i was trying to get a w2k bootdisk but couldnt find one....i even tried to create my own from the w2k disk but that didnt work out that well either...and i still have the same problem...thnks for replying though...

You just copy boot.ini, ntdetect.com and ntldr to a floppy and it's fine. (just be sure the boot.ini points to correct location).
