maxtor diamondmax plus 60 60gb

This drive has crapped out. 7200RPM ATA 100 Backed up except for some family pictures I would like to save. Under warranty but Maxtor will only replace. They told me it was probably the PCBA and not the drive. gave me a source for a replacement PCBA Looking for model "01A" but that was a dead end. Bought a defective drive on ebay with the same PCBA which made a clicking sound when installed on my drive(better than no sound) so I know that the drive can spin and need the right non-defective board. Anybody have a lead or such a drive laying around? Hope this is the right forum. thanks steve

I don't understand, if the drive is under warranty why not just send it in for a replacement?

WB, he's trying to recover the photos on the drive before sending it off to Maxtor.

Good luck, siy98, and welcome to TechIMO.

One question - does Maxtor have the exact drive available, and will they still do an advance exchange?

Havc them ship the new one, swap the PCBA, recover the data, swap back, ship.

They will send me a new drive but will not match the PCBA# of the old one. Will not replace the board alone. So I'm on my own. thanks

Atomic Rooster will become famous soon enough
Send a message via AIM to Atomic Rooster Send a message via Yahoo to Atomic Rooster
If the pics are worth that much to you, you can always send it to one of those "data recovery" outfits and they can extract them for you.

You might want to post over in the traders forum under WTB then.
I understand your frustration, this has happened to me as well except it was data for my business.
If you can't find the part I suppose the only option is to go Atomic Roosters route, though when I looked into Data recovery the expense out weighed the data lost.

Data recovery is not an option for 2 reasons:
1. there is probably nothing wrong with the data
2. the recovery guys charge a fortune
3. I found one drive with the right board but busted and will find another. its just a matter of time. Maxtor probably made 10,000 of these. I think I posted at WTB also. Thanks for the support.
