Comp. Freezes at Win2000 logo

At first I thought that it was the HD. So I formatted the drive. But keep getting the same thing. WIndows 2000 freezes at the logo part. I have to restart the computer 3 or 4 times before it is able to jump to windows. Any ideas what it could be?. The only two things I can think of are the MB or the power. So I am thinking that the power is not passing to the MB the right way..it has like to sort of warm up..help please..thanks

Is your CPU getting sufficient voltages?

Thanks for the help..I will look forward the link and well my other question would be for you Buzioid. How could I measuer the CPU voltage? and what would be normal for a CPU?..Although I do not know what its going on with the system, what you mention makes sense...

Thanks again everyone

What cpu do you have? You should be able to check the BIOS and see what your voltage is set at, and change it.

You know it might not be the vltage, is the little line at the bottom that scrolls across stop, or does it just keep scrolling and scrolling? If it doesnt just stop, then it might be a pci device that isnt responding to windows or a bad driver. have you added anything to your pc yet? or overclocked it?

Speed: The little line scrolls and stops in the middle. I have not added anything. I just dont know what it could be. I did tried changing the Video Driver but it didnt work either...I took away the other cards too... I have thought to be the video card..but that I dont have a spare one to try it..so I guess thats the last thing I could try cuz I even tried kicking the computer already!! ha..j/k

thanks!!

Have you tried repairing the installation?

I'm running a slot A, 800MHz Athlon as well, and I'm running it at 1.80v (normal is 1.70v). Front side bus is at 107MHz with PC133 for 860MHz. (MSI 6195 K7 Pro)

If it gets to the W2K logo and then stops, I doubt it is a problem with the power. It could be bad spots on the HDD though. It could also be corrupted files after the installation or like you suspected, a bad periphrial.

I would first recommend following Bill's suggestion.

I would second recommend checking the HDD for bad clusters and repairing as required.
