RAID help needed

I have 5 HDs righ now in my PC. My set up is like this right now:


c: (on drive 1) 41.11 GB 34.93 GB free (MAXTOR ATA100 7200rpm)
d: (on drive 3) 30.01 GB 10.55 GB free (WD 5400RPM ATA100) (SAME AS F DRIVE)
e: (on drive 2) 45.02 GB 6.56 GB free (WD 5400rpm ATA66 )
f: (on drive 4) 30.01 GB 0 MB free (WD 5400RPM ATA100)
g: (on drive 0) 10.26 GB 9.56 GB free (Removing and replacing with 20gig WD 7200rpm ata 100)

Im thinking of making the 2 30 gig drives my raid setup and the 41 gig maxtor my games drive. And my 30 gig my Download drive, and my 20 gig my BS drive. Believe it or not I have most of the space used right now. I gotta lotta burning to do, I know. But as far as the raid settup, what do you guys think?

Hmmm you guys might need to know some specs... Abit vp6 with dual p3 750 OCed to 840. 1.75gig ram. radeon 8500 oced and new modded 9100 bios, dual PSU (I Made Myself) Also Tubed Forced air cooling system, Steel braided cables.... Ect, Ect...

I know all the last part is not gonna help ya but Im proud of my PC. If I get this raid thing going tonight Ill post some pictures of my baby.

The configuration you describe sounds reasonable enough. You will find those often sluggish 5400 rpm drives will zoom in a RAID 0 configuration.

Well Im gonna go for it! Also the 45gig is 7200rpm. SO the 2 5400s are going to be set up in the raid. I hope it really does make a big difference in the speed. Ioll letcha know! BTW thanks Rob I just needed someone to agree with what Im gonna do. I havent done this before!

OK this through me for a loop, maybe I should have read up on this raid thing before I started.... Anyways, I should NOT have Windows set up on the raid drives? It will slow down performance? So my best bet would be Getting the new 20 gig making 2 10 gig hds makuing one my windows drive (C) My RAID setup 30x2=60gig as my games and Video & Swap file drive (D) my 2nd 10 off the 20 gig my storage (E) and my other 7200rpm drives for my other thigs... BTW the 45gig was only ata66 and the 40 gig is really ata133 but my mobo doesnt support it at that speed.

So if this made sense to anyone please let me know what you think. and if I should change anything.

I wouldn't install Windows to your RAID array. In RAID 0, if something goes wrong on one drive, the data on both drives is lost. I'd install Windows to one of your 7200 rpm drives. ATA/66 and so on don't really matter much, since actual performance rarely reaches or exceeds '66'.

EDIT: What version of Windows? If it's 2000/XP, press F6 during setup (when prompted) to install your RAID drivers.
