Airbrush for painting cases?

i was wondering if airbrushes work well for painting cases? i want to sand mine down and re do it, but its going to take alot to get it done right. i think. i was thinking 2-3 coats of a blue then a few of a clear gloss. after sanding and priming. can airbrushes handle this? have clear gloss paint? is this a worthwhile investment?
i'm sure if i had one i'd maybe use it for something else as well maybe.

OK are you talking about using an airbrush to paint your entire case blue and then use it to clearcoat it also?
or are you saying you want to paint it blue and then airbrush graphics on it then clearcoat it...
seems to me that using an airbrush to do entire case would be time consuming and may not do as uniform a job...if thats what you mean.

well i did spray paint it once. one can gets me about 1 coat. well maybe on the high side of 2 if i didn't put such a heavy coat on that time. if i had the ability i might do a multi color. i didn't think about that. i have a feeling a bunch of paint is cheaper then 2-3 cans.

edit i was thinking about doing the entire thing with an airbrush. i dont really know what i havn't gotten myself into. i just thought maybe it had a wide spray path so it wouldn't take that long to put one coat down then wait for it to dry. then repeat a few times.

ok we all think we do mods but check these out...IMO airbrushing is the ultimate mod http://www.computersdivine.com/airbrushing.htm

if your just looking for single color you might be better getting a bigger spray gun. Airbrushes are more for finer work and would take alot of time and skill to make one color look uniform you could do it tho

here's another site I didn't look but I've seen some of the cases they have done and they are way cool

any ideas where they sell airbrushes/sprayguns online? i can't even think of some hobby stores around here off the top of my head. i know the art/craft stores have them but i have only seen the smaller ones.

isn't the spray gun just like a big airbrush type deal? or is that something else entirley?

edit i see some spray guns. they are kinda expensive. and i'd still need the compressor. and it only does 4" on the bigest one. the widest one i saw on an air brush was 1.5" hmmm maybe i'll just have to find a good deal on the krylon color i like and some clear coat. and maybe brush on primer?

I was thinking something along the lines of a spray gun that they use to paint cars. It has a bigger spray area and could zip through a case in no time flat. But either way its going to cost more to buy the equipment than it would to buy 4-5 cans of spray paint.

You'll have to google it I don't know of any stores right off the top of my head, but I did see some when I searched for the links. You use to be able to get inexpensive airbrushes at harbor freight and tools might try there. i know they have a site you can order from.

Came across this site some time back while researching airbrushes.

Airhead Airbrush

Have NOT dealt with them, though. Got sidetracked & haven't bought a decent one yet.

BTW, I've got a cheapie & have worked with it some. I would NOT recommend using one for an entire case. A touch-up gun would be better suited.
An airbrush is for fine detail work - it's small spray pattern would make it really tough to get even coverage on a large surface!

something like a, INDUSTRIAL PAINT SPRAY GUN? its not that expensive. and it sounds like it would just need a compressor that can put out the psi at that volume.
i see they also have a complete spray gun kit for about what i was looking to spend on an airbrush kit. do you know what kind of paint needs to be used for one of thoes?

still it might just be better to go with the spray paint and hope i dont have to do it again.

Yeah I agree with the idea of a touch-up gun but unless you have a compressor handy its still not going to be cost effective to buy the gun and compressor to only do one case.
