L7S7A2 w/ 2500+ question...

Hi, I just finished installing my new 'puter and I there's 2 options on the CMOS that I'm not sure:

First, I'm not OC'ing...
The Mboard is ECS - L7S7A2 , CPU is AMD XP2500+ and my ram is 256 Mb. PC2700 - 333 Mhz DDR

The options are:
1) CPU Frecuency = 166 Mhz <--- is that correct?

2) DRAM Timing Configuration = Normal Mode
the option for that one are: Safe, Normal, Fast, Turbo, Ultra

Thanks....

PS. Any other suggestions to optimize the mboard are welcome

CPU frequency is correct.. I would play with the dram timing issue. if you have high quality ram like Micron, Elixir, Crucial... etc.. then try the fast.. if its ok.. try turbo.. if thats ok try Ultra. if that works then you are good to go. it if craps on one of the memory settings, then go back to previous one. I have mine on ultra because I have good ram. its a game of trial and error.. let us know how it goes.

Well, it's a cheap memory, so I don't know....maybe I'll try 'Fast' and see if it doesn't crash...

Could I damage the memory in any way by doing this??

yea.. do like a said before.. it will just hang just reboot and get into bios and change it if you have problems. if that does work just clear the CMOS batt by shorting the batt (see manual on how to clear cmos) each mobo is different on the procedure... mines on Ultra without problems.

The real thing is not when the system won't boot, but when the faster memory timings begin to cause errors. I have K7S5A and my system will boot at the fastest memory settings, BUT! At the Ultra settings my memory starts to produce errors. In the short run these are nothing more than an annoyance, but if you leave the settings there at the high level they will eventually corrupt your files as many are rewritten back onto the HD. You can check what your memory can handle by running a simple dos utility like MemTest 86 or another HERE
