no-one is on a distinguished road
pc not booting whith second HDD

Hi to every one

ok heres the problem .....

i recently instaled a removable HDD on to a pc upon booting (startup) the pc runs thru the memory test ok it then sayes wait (at this point normaly i hear one beep to signal alls ok and it searchers A then C to boot from)
when the secondHDD is pluged in it gets to wait and then nothing

i have read sevral posts and tried variuse solutions whith no joy in finding an answer

in the bios the two Hdd are set-to auto
the jumpers on the back are set properly

IDE 1 ......... master HDD win 98 se
slave cd-rw justlink 48x12x48

IDE 2 ......... slave cd-rom 52x
master removable HDD caseing



the removable HDD case is for useing to backup file or make gost images of HDD

master HDD WDcaviar model ... ac26400-00rn
MB ms5169 ver:2.1 al9

in this instance the second HDD has win 95
could it be a boot conflict ??

It shouldnt be a boot conflict if you have the jumpers set properly. I use an old 1.6gb hdd as a removable storage, if communicates fine with XP.

make sure the master is at the end of each cable also . and the jumpers are all set correct . also what are the hardrives ? once i had a wd hard drive that just wouldn't boot if it had a second harddrive in the pc . didn't matter what ide controler it was on .

it seems the removable HDD case was what was the problme
when i removed the HDD from the case and pluged it straight in to IDE2 it booted fine
it is so frustrating when you know youve tried/done everything you can and it turns out to be a fault in a bit of tech thats just out the plastic bag
