SBM is fine, but GRUB and XOSL are better IMO. XOSL gives you a nice GUI to run, and exists on a FAT32 partition. GRUB can be configured to use a splash screen (so you can use your own picture) and can exist on lots of different partition types, such as ext2, reiser, JFS, Minix FS, and XFS. Its very versatile, and allows you to change kernel options at that point. Although, you could set it up to boot the boot sector of each partition, you may as well use something like xosl if you want to do that.
